La Distinction Academy (“we,” “our,” or “the Academy”) respects the privacy of enrolled families, prospective families, and visitors to this website. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, who else sees it, and what you can ask us to do about it. It covers this website, our enquiry and tour forms, and our online shop. Care of your child’s records while enrolled is governed by our Parent Handbook, which takes precedence where the two overlap.
Information we collect
When you contact us or book a tour
- Your name, email address and phone number.
- The reason you are writing, and anything you choose to tell us in your message.
- For a tour request: the day and time you would like to visit, and who is coming — which may include your child’s age.
When you apply for a place
- Parent and guardian names, address, email and phone.
- Your child’s name, date of birth and the programme you are interested in.
- Anything else the enrollment form asks for at the time you complete it.
When you buy something from our shop
- Your email address, which is required so we can send a receipt and, for a download, the file itself.
- A billing address, for orders containing physical goods. Orders that are downloads only are not asked for one.
- A record of what you ordered, when, and what you paid.
- We never see or store your card number. Card details are entered directly with our payment provider and are never sent to this website. See “Payments” below.
When you simply visit
- Standard server records — the pages requested, the time, your browser type and IP address — kept for security and troubleshooting.
- A session cookie if you add something to a basket, so the basket survives between pages.
- Cookies set by embedded third-party content. See “Cookies and embedded content”.
How we use information
- To answer your enquiry, confirm a tour, and process an application.
- To run our early education programme and keep enrolled families informed.
- To take payment, send receipts, deliver downloads, and keep the order records a business is required to keep.
- To keep the website working, secure, and free of abuse.
We do not use your information to advertise to you, and we do not add you to a mailing list because you enquired or bought something. If we ever start a newsletter, it will be something you opt into.
Payments
Card payments are processed by Stripe and PayPal. When you pay, your card details go directly to that provider over an encrypted connection; they do not pass through, and are not stored on, this website. Each provider handles your data under its own privacy policy, linked above. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded, along with the last digits and card type where the provider supplies them.
Tuition and fees paid outside the shop — through the parent communication app, or by cheque payable to La Distinction Enterprises, LLC — are handled as described in the Parent Handbook.
Digital downloads
Files bought from our shop are stored privately and are not reachable by guessing a web address. Your receipt contains a link that is signed against your specific order. That link does not expire, so you can download again later; treat it as you would a receipt, since anyone you forward it to can use it.
Photographs and media
Classroom and event photography is governed by the photography consent in our Parent Handbook. Promotional use — this website, newsletters, social media — requires parent or guardian consent. Consent may be withdrawn in writing to info@ladistinctionco.com, and we will stop the promotional use going forward; we cannot recall material already printed or shared onward by others. Photographs may still be used for classroom observation and may appear in the parent communication app as described in the handbook.
Cookies and embedded content
This website sets only the cookies it needs to work: a session cookie for your shopping basket, and a login cookie for staff. We do not use advertising cookies.
The map on our contact page is embedded from Google Maps. When that page loads, Google receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, exactly as if you had visited Google Maps directly. This is outside our control and is governed by Google’s privacy policy. The same applies to any video or social content we embed.
Who else sees your information
We do not sell personal information, and we never will. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us operate — our payment providers, our parent communication app, our website host and email provider — and only as much as each needs to do its job.
- Licensing and child-protection authorities, where Massachusetts law requires it.
- Anyone, where it is genuinely necessary to protect the safety of a child or a member of staff.
Children’s privacy
Our forms are written for parents and guardians, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child through this website. Where we hold information about a child, we collected it from that child’s parent or guardian. If you believe a child has sent us information directly, contact us and we will delete it.
How long we keep information
- Enquiries and tour requests: kept while we are in conversation with you, and for a reasonable period afterwards in case you come back to us.
- Enrollment and programme records: kept for as long as your child is with us, and afterwards for the period Massachusetts childcare regulations require.
- Order records: kept as long as tax and accounting rules require.
- Server logs: kept briefly, for security and troubleshooting.
Your choices
You may ask us to show you what we hold about you or your child, correct anything that is wrong, or delete information we are not required to keep. Write to us using the details below and we will respond. We may need to confirm your identity first, and we will tell you if a legal obligation prevents us from deleting something.
Security
This website is served over an encrypted connection, purchased files are held in private storage, and access to family records is limited to staff who need it. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise — but if a breach ever affected your information, we would tell you.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Material changes — a new category of information, or a new party we share it with — will be brought to families’ attention directly rather than left here to be discovered.
